January 6, 2011 - Classmate Lisa Yanak asked that the following information be posted concerning Penny Chandler Wendell:
We knew, at the last reunion, that Penny was sick. It's lung cancer and she is in the last stages of her life. Her sister-in-law is her main caregiver, but she also has hospice care. She doesn't touch her computer but messages will be received through her sister-in-law's email: mchan@myfairpoint.net
Penny's address is 19 Osprey Lane, Deer Isle Maine 04627. We've been told that she would appreciate all of the good wishes and positive energy that we can muster.
Lisa asks that we do what we can to get the word out. If you knew Penny, I'm sure she would appreciate hearing from you. We all know how important small notes and cards can mean at a time like this. Thank you!

As many of you may know, our friend Tom McKeefery is battling a struggle with terminal prostate cancer. Unfortunately, the diagnosis came too late and the cancer continues to spread. This has wreaked havoc on Tom's financial well being and his ability to work to make a living. In order to assist Tom as much as possible and to supplement the meager amount of finances he receives from disability, we are asking that you consider helping out as much as you feel you can. Tom is in dire need of finances to assist him with his living costs, specifically maintaining housing.

It was only after climbing out of this Stearman plane at the conclusion of an aerobatic flight that Tom told the pilot about his cancer and that this was a "bucket list" flight. He had previously booked it for his son who was unable to use it.
